Have 10 Minutes? Clean Up Your Feed Reader

I use FeedDemon to manage my RSS feeds for the blogs I follow. I used to use Google Reader online, but it would often mark my feeds read for no reason, not showing me what was new. I don't have this issue with FeedDemon luckily.

I currently subscribe to 121 feeds. A few days my number was 153. Missing even one day of reading my feeds with 153 subscriptions can be time consuming. I only want to subscribe to those blogs that I'm truly interested in. I don't want to waste my time reading content I could careless about. It was time to unsubscribe to a handful of blogs.

I still think 121 is a bit much, but there are quite a few blogs that I subscribe to that don't update frequently, but when they do, I don't want to miss out. It takes me about 30-45 minutes a day to go through my feed. That's a lot of time now that I actually think about it. Perhaps I need to clear out more.

  1. I really need to do this, I use Google reader right now. But the one you are using looks interesting. Just download it to play with it and see how I like it.
I have a lot of feeds today and if I miss one day of reading it gets pretty high and than I start to panic LOL!!!.
    Have a great day

  2. Tiffany, I really appreciate your "Have 10 Minutes?" posts. Most people say they don't have enough time to [insert onerous task here]. The truth is that we all have time to do things we don't want to do, we just use time as an excuse. Anyone can find 10 minutes within an entire day to take care of the annoying little details in life. Thanks for your insightful posts!

  3. I agree with Marcie. Like you said, we spend 30-45 minutes a day just reading blogs! We have time to declutter if we have time to do that.

    Thanks for sharing.
I'm going to clean my feed now!

  4. 1st, let me say I love your blog! I subscribe by email. I don't even know what a reader is..really, it's sad but true! How does it work? Thanks for any input you could give me :)

  5. I only have 27 feeds in my reader and even that's more than I can keep up with. I use Google and it seems that after posts reach a certain age it just deletes them from your feed? I know that means I've missed out on some good stuff, but it also keeps me from being quite so overwhelmed. If you can spare the time, 30-45 minutes doesn't seem that bad to me, actually. I assume you're reading things that are educational and inspiring. There's a lot worse ways to spend half an hour!

  6. This is a huge problem for me. I try to clean out my google reader every couple of months, but I feel so connected to so many of them!

  7. I just cleaned mine up a few weeks ago! I frequently add and remove feeds after I've lived with them for a while. Now I'm down to about 112!
