Back when Instagram was super cool, but before it was available Android, I didn't understand the point of it. Today when looking for inspiration to blog, Instagram had it for me. More specifically, my own feed was my inspiration.
I use Instagram for a large variety of photo posts. And no matter what the topic is, how I'm feeling that day, or who I'm with, I have a collection of beautiful photos to revisit when I'm needing a pick me up.
Things I find beautiful...
Things that make me happy...
Kids & a career that make my world go 'round for 9 months a year...
Memories with my family that I love dearly and miss terribly...
Thankful times when a friend was there when I needed her most...
Reminders to refocus life every now and then...
Life will never be perfect, and I'm completely okay with that. I'm blessed to have family and friends in my life who are there for me no matter what. I'm blessed for the opportunities life has handed me, thus far. I'm blessed to be alive, changing the lives of my 27 ten year olds, and experiencing the beauty that nature gives us.
Have an amazing Tuesday! :)

Ready For a New Year
2013 was quite the year for me. It was long, exhausting, and full of life changes. But through the hardships I learned so much and feel like such a better person.
Life lessons learned...
Take time for yourself.
While I'm notorious for being very stubborn and set in my ways, I very rarely take time for myself. I'm a people pleaser, and not having someone to take care of at home anymore completely submerged me in my work. I spent every moment of every day working on things for my classroom and for teachers at my school. I didn't take the time to focus on me at all and I ended up being overloaded. Lesson learned. I rarely bring my work home with me anymore on the weekends and I take the time to spend with others when I can.
Cherish every moment, even those that seem small.
I'm sure my Facebook friends and Instagram followers are going crazy with all of my picture posts over the last few months. Ha! Life is so beautiful and has so many moments that I want to capture. Even if it's a simple note from a student or a gorgeous sunset. I want to cherish those things that make me smile each day and remind me how wonderful life is.
Be myself, 100%, because that's where true happiness lies.
Getting back in the dating scene after being in a 9 year relationship that started when I was 16 was difficult. I had no idea what I was doing. One thing I did learn, early on, in the dating process is to just completely be myself. I knew that I didn't want to find someone to spend time with that I would have to "act" around. If I can just be me all of the time around someone, then I'll be happy. I held a "take it or leave it" attitude, which can go either way, but it definitely weeded out those who weren't meant for me.
Make memories with loved ones as often as possible.
I don't hold grudges. Life is too short to do so. We lost a close family member a few years ago that made my family change their view on life. It's unfortunate that I live so far away and don't get to see them as often as I'd like, but it makes those moments together that much more special. I choose to live in Utah while they reside in Pennsylvania because it's what makes me happy. I know I wouldn't be happy living on the East coast again. Luckily I have a loving family that supports me and travels to see me, and encourages me to travel to come see them. I traveled to Pennsylvania for a month in July this year to spend time with my family and went to Florida for a week on vacation with my dad and step-mom. I had an amazing time on both trips and completely focused on our time together - no working. In 2014, I look forward to visiting Pennsylvania again this summer, going to Las Vegas for my dad's 50th birthday in September, going to Florida for Christmas, and having my mom come visit in June.
Don't be afraid to ask for and accept help.
I'm still struggling with this one, but I'm trying. I like to do everything myself. I know it will be exactly how I want it if I do. I have a hard time trusting others, which I'm working on. I'm letting others help me at work. I'm trying to let my boyfriend help me with things, but I'm so independent that it's hard to let go. I'll get there. This is one of my main focuses for 2014.
It's okay to say "no".
Again, being a people pleaser, this is hard for me. I have requests all of the time to create new printables, calendars, planners, etc. I am flattered by the requests, but I work a full-time job and I'm trying to pull my life back together. I'm trying not to sit in front of the computer all night, as soon as I get home, like I used to. If I were doing this Etsy business full-time, I'd be all about it. I love what I do, what I create. But at this point, I don't have time for custom documents. I hope that someday {hopefully in 2014} I can dedicate more time to my printables, and create a lot more to share for free. I want to get back to blogging before I expand my printables though. That's my first focus.
2014 is going to be a great year. I know it.

Summertime Bucket List - June 2013

I've been out of school for summer break since last Wednesday. I've been busy working at school - cleaning and organizing for next year - as well as working on my teacher planner and updating some files in my Teachers Pay Teachers and Teachers Notebook stores.
Next month, I'll be traveling to Pennsylvania to spend time with family all month. I cannot wait. A long awaited vacation. =]
I feel like I have a ton to do this summer, and at the top of my list is getting in shape and eating healthy. The Color Run in SLC is coming up in August and I'm determined that I will be in shape for this event. {If you live in SLC and want to join in, use the code COLOREFFECT for $5 off your reigstration! If you don't live in SLC, but are interested in participating in a local Color Run, you can use the code COLOR5OFF to receive $5 off your registration fee in your city!}

I've amped up my water intake to over 9 cups a day {I drink 3 bottles from my Camelbak water bottle, which is 750 mL.} I've increased the protein in my diet as well, and cut carbs and sugar as much as possible. I've found a new love for veggies - especially red bell peppers - and feta cheese, and tried egg whites for the first time, also falling in love. I've read in several different places that drinking water consistently helps with weight loss because your body confuses dehydration with hunger. I'm sure to drink a lot of water before each meal, which helps me not over eat. I haven't found myself to be hungry at all because of this either. I'm exercising 6 days a week, alternating between cardio and core training.
I'm working on updating 2013-2014 calendars for my Etsy store, and updating sets that I currently sell. I'm planning for blogging, hoping to find a way to better manage my time so I can blog more often.
I'm searching for more things to sell online this month to simplify my life and make some extra money to pay off student loan debt.
I have a professional development course the last week of June for 3 full days. I'm excited to learn more about language arts.
This is a lot to accomplish in the next 2.5 weeks, but I'm totally motivated and ready to go.
What is on your bucket list for this month?

Inspired to Complete 26 Acts

I was on Twitter and came across a tweet from DonorsChoose. It had the tag #26acts. I clicked it, out of curiosity, to see what it was all about. Initially I was thinking it was a way I could possibly get my current project funded. Then I realized it was even bigger than my own needs/wants. It consumed the rest of my night.
I read a news story on NBC by Ann Curry about the 26 Acts of Kindness campaign. Then I saw the BuzzFeed post with pictures from 26 Acts. I joined the Facebook page and read what others are doing. I started reading the #26acts tweets on Twitter. I decided that I had to join in.
26 acts of kindness for the 26 victims in Newtown, CT. What a way to honor those lost. An absolutely brilliant way to take a stand against a tragedy.
So far I've completed 3 acts of kindness.
I donated to two teachers on DonorsChoose.org and completed their project funding for them. Two completely random teachers who are in high poverty schools. Bless them.
I recently received an email from a reader who was asking for my help in tackling her cluttered home. She sounded overwhelmed and completely lost. I hear you. I want to help. I emailed her one of my PDF sets to help her get organized and will help her turn her life around, as much as I possibly can.
I have more plans for this week. I'm going to the mall tomorrow. I plan to leave some notes with gift cards. I am going to pay for the person's meal who is after me during my Thursday McDonalds breakfast stop and Thursday Jimmy Johns lunch run. {Thursdays are my "bad" days. lol}
Two weeks ago Lyndsey at A Year of Many Firsts posted about random acts of kindness she's doing with her first grade students. She's so sweet and has so many free {and amazing} resources for teachers - including her We Are Kind Kids RACK packet. I decided to do this with my students.
We're in a brand new school with lots of volunteers, one part-time {yet full-time} custodian, overworked secretaries, principal, and special education staff, and an absolutely amazing teaching assistant shared in our grade. We're so grateful. My grade level teaching partner and I emphasize respect and responsibility on a daily basis in our classrooms. We share our classes 50/50 now {I'm teaching language arts, science, and art to both 4th grade classes, so I get each class for half of the day}, so it's like all 53 of them are "mine". I couldn't be happier. Since we have the same values in our classroom, the acts of kindness seemed like something that the kids would enjoy and would be able to easily participate in. Boy, was I right!
We spent 30 minutes one afternoon creating cards for the staff in our school that seem to be "overlooked" during the holidays. Teachers always get lots of gifts from students, but we wanted those who make our school run smoothly to know that we appreciate them and everything they do for us. I should have taken pictures of the cards - they were amazing. Thank yous to the "lunch ladies" who are moms that volunteer their time each day to help serve students lunch. Thank yous for the custodian who works a double to help keep our school clean. Thank yous for the women on recess duty who freeze with the kids outside just so we can have a 40 minute lunch. Thank yous for the office secretaries who help call home, take care of sick and "broken" students, deliver our never ending package deliveries of classroom supplies to our classroom door, and everything else they do for us. Thank yous to parents who have donated laptops and a printer to our classroom. Thank yous to our incredible teaching assistant who has taken it upon herself to become part of our 4th grade family and fits right in perfectly with both my teaching partner, our kids, and me. We would be lost without her. {And if you're reading this, Laura, just know I mean every word.}
We are blessed at our school. I feel incredibly lucky to have been offered {and accepted} this position. I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I can't imagine anything else. It's been a really long, hard road since the beginning of the year, but the students have shown me that they are worth every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears I've put in for them. They are the reason everything else in my life has taken the back seat over the last few months.
My students and the faculty at my school are the reason I am choosing to complete these 26 acts this month. I am grateful.
Will you join me? I'd love to hear what acts of kindness you're completing! Leave comments, links to your own blog posts, links to pictures via Instagram or Twitter, anything. Please share to help inspire!

A Problem, A Solution, & A Decision for Change
This is a multi-story post. Bear with me. {Yes, this is the correct "bear" in that phrase. I Googled it.}
We decided to eat healthier. We, as in Chris and I, together. We bought fresh fruit, quite a bit, to make a fruit salad. Usually we buy bananas or apples and that's the extent of our fruit buying. Our fruit bowl has been mostly used to hold grain products - buns, tortillas, rolls, bagels, etc. Well, the left over fruit doesn't fit nicely with the grains. That is a problem for me. It makes us both stay away from the whole situation in fear of dumping the whole bowl.
I decided I wanted to put the grains in the cupboard. Good luck finding room with the cupboard's current condition...
A Solution
I spent time rearranging, organizing, cleaning, searching for expired food, etc. I am pleased with the solution. The fruit gets its own bowl.
The grains go into a basket in the cupboard. Perfect.
Everything is now organized and easily accessible. Let's hope I can keep it this way all summer. =]
I'd love to buy this OXO Good Grips 10-Piece POP Container Set
. It's $98 on Amazon. Amazon always has the best prices on everything, from what I've found over the last 5 years. It's just so expensive for 10 containers. I want something to store pasta, rice, snacks, chocolate chips, etc. Any suggestions for something similar to these, but cheaper?
I have recently decided - partially with Chris, but mostly on my own - to make a change. Well, not just a change, but several.
#1 - Iwant need to be healthy - and fit. I'm not looking to specifically lose a certain number of pounds. I want need to feel better about myself mentally and emotionally, and feel physically better. I sit for far too long every day, especially now that it's summer and I'm not teaching. I'm still working this summer - on my blogs, on my TPT files, on my Etsy files, etc. - but I'm not active. My hypothyroid just plain sucks and I'm not going to let that be an excuse anymore for why I am physically unfit. So with being more active, I'm also changing the way I eat. I know both of these changes will make me feel better each day and I'll have more energy. It's a good change. I'll post about what I'm going for this change next week.
#2 - Iwant need to stop biting my nails. Such a gross habit, I know. It's a boredom thing, I think. I often catch myself doing it without knowing. It makes it even more gross when I do it at school while working with kids. The germs that have to be under those nails. *blah* Plus, I have a mani/pedi combo gift certificate from a student that I'd love to use to it's full potential - not on nasty gnawed down nails. I've tried the nasty tasting nail polish - that doesn't work for me. Any other ideas for me would be greatly appreciated. =]
#3 -I We want need to create a budget, stick to it, and pay off debt. This means meal plans (once again), a realistic money map (hate the word budget), cutting costs, less going out (of course), and more saving and paying more than the minimum on student loans. I don't think we've ever been able to stick to a budget for a whole month. It's time to become adults and just do it already. We're still stuck in our adolescent mindset here.
#4 - Iwant need to simplify in all areas of my life. I feel like I have too much "stuff". Too many clothes, too many purses, too many gadgets, etc. It's just overwhelming, really. I can't make a decision on what to use when I have more than one. And then when I'm using more of something else and rarely using the other, I just feel like "what's the point of keeping both/all of them"? For example - I have two Kindles. One e-ink and the Fire. Two different Kindles, same concept. I should get rid of the e-ink one, I guess, but what am I supposed to do with it? I'm not going to donate it or just give it away. I could sell it, but for what? It's almost not worth it to sell it. I even have the first generation Kindle that just sits in my closet. I'll never use that one again. I have some decisions to make regarding my clutter over the next month.

Some Much Needed R&R
My life has been crazier than I can handle, but I'm working through it.
My father and step-mother came out to Utah from Pennsylvania to visit last weekend. We had a wonderful time. On Saturday we visited Antelope Island State Park. I hadn't been there since October 2005, so I was excited to return. Besides the bugs eating us alive, we enjoyed our visit. I took so many wonderful pictures. Check a few out below.
On Sunday we visited Red Butte Garden. My brother and his fiance plan to get married there next May, so they wanted to show my father and step-mother the grounds. It was absolutely gorgeous! I've been to Red Butte previously, but not when everything was in bloom. I went picture-taking-crazy and ended up with over 150 pictures. They turned out so amazing. I want to share them all, but it's too much work. Here are my favorites.
15 days of school left. DIBELS test tomorrow. CRTs on Thursday & Friday. Biography Report Wax Museum next Thursday...along with Bike, Board, & Blade Day. No school next Friday or the following Monday. Zoo field trip on the 29th. Town meeting (class play) on the 30th. Half days June 4, 5, & 6. I am losing my mind at school. My kids are absolutely nuts...for the last 4 weeks. A few of them could see the stress rolling from my ears and made me coupon books for 10 minutes of silence and help during recess. So nice to have some of them looking out for me. =]
Thanks for all of your support that you've been giving. I appreciate all of the advice you've given and especially loved hearing how you cope with hypothyroidism and gallbladder (or gallbladderless) issues. It's so nice to connect with others, even if anonymously over the internet. As soon as school is out and I have more energy, I'm going to start running and hope that helps with energy!
I have high hopes to be able to clean something this week -- anything would be great, really. I've been so busy printing, cutting, laminating, and cutting again for centers that are math and language arts related. I'm out of ideas on what to do with my kids now that we've finished our math and language arts programs. Centers are a lot of work the first time around. Good thing I'm taking the time to laminate them so they'll last a lot longer. Any teachers out there have any ideas to share on things to do with your class at the end of the year?
I am exhausted, writing this at 11:20 p.m. and I have a killer sunburn on my shoulders from Red Butte on Sunday. My bad for not thinking this beautiful weather in May could burn me. (I regret it now, for sure!) My school's arts showcase is this Friday evening, so I've been working non-stop at school, trying to get everything ready. Each class creates a display for each student and then a class "quilt" with one art project. Ours turned out great. I can't wait to show you pictures after the showcase. I love being part of an arts focused school, but it's a lot of work this time of year!
I have some really great projects that I can't wait to get my hands on once school is out! I'll be back in-motion on here before you know it. Have an amazing Tuesday!

Q&A: Part 2
To view part 1 of the Q&A, click here.
Organization Related Qs
- Use containers/baskets/bins/etc. to store things in your home. It helps cut clutter - but can also create a dumping ground. Always go through your storage bins on a regular basis.
- Create a filing system for your home. Use a system that makes sense for you and your family. It can be something as simple as a few labeled folders kept in a basket on the table or more complex like a filing cabinet drawer sorted into categories. Paper needs a home - find it one.
- Scan what you can and get rid of the rest. I don't like paper clutter - so I digitize what I can.
Can you tell that paper clutter is my biggest concern?
I would definitely use print with kids and organization though - it helps with word/sound/letter recognition.
Home Life Related Qs
Here's the honest truth: I don't. Not anymore at least. I'm taking life as it comes right now, being in a transition with my new job. During my winter break, I plan on reorganizing my home management binder and changing it to suit our "new life".
Over the summer I had all of the time in the world to organize, clean, and keep things in order around the house. Now, I'm lucky if I get everything cleaned every week. I'll keep you updated on the changes I'm going to make to my HMB. I'm definitely going to literally plan out everything for each week - what days to do laundry, vacuum, dust, etc. If I don't, I won't do it.
A HMB definitely helps me keep my mind sane when it comes to keeping my home in order. I keep track of the last time I've done everything - right down to seasonal cleanings (light covers, washing windows, washing curtains, etc.) so I know when things need to be done again. This is actually something I've just started doing in the last year and it makes things easier for me.
I can't imagine what life will be like once we have kids. I know we'll make it work, but it's going to turn our world upside down, I'm sure.
On the other hand, I rely on lists and my planners. When I get to it, I get to it. (Unless it's on a Post-It note - then it's a must do ASAP type of task.)
Blog/Etsy Store Qs
And to expose my blog, I've linked up to parties other blogs host on a weekly basis when I have a project worth sharing. Pinterest has also been one of the biggest exposures for me. When someone pins, it can just go nuts from there if they have a lot of followers. It's viral. =]
Another Personal Q
Organization Related Qs
You have lots of organizational tips and ideas, but do YOU feel like an organized person?
Yes and no. Right now, my closet is a mess. It's turned into a dumping ground. I tried cleaning it yesterday, and just didn't feel like tackling it. It's scheduled for today's task. I definitely do follow by most of the tips I give. When things get out of order, it makes me crazy, but I'm not super strict with myself (or husband) on keeping things "perfect".
Have you always been interested in organization?
Yes! Ever since I was little, I've always loved organizing things - especially for others. I wanted to be a maid for the longest time because I wanted to clean other people's homes for them.
What are three tips (or more) that are most important to you?
- Color code everything. Give each family member a color and stick to it when planning (write in that color). Color code categories when filing. Just color code it all. =]- Use containers/baskets/bins/etc. to store things in your home.
When you feel overwhelmed by a house full of clutter and disorganization, where do you start? How do you combat the feeling of complete being overwhelmed? Also, how do you stay motivated once you start?
Start small. Tackle a pile of paper clutter. If you feel okay after that, move on to something else...but not until you've completely finished the first task. If you start something, always finish it. If you decide to tackle a whole room and become overwhelmed, break it down into sections or by task and work on them one at a time. It makes it more manageable and allows you to take a break if you do need one...once you finish the section/task at hand. To stay motivated I always envision what I want from what I'm doing and most of the time I'll map it out or write it down. It keeps me focused and allows me to see that there is an end in sight. Fun music always helps as well.
How do you manage paper clutter?
Check out my October Project that I did this year. It's all about managing my paper and digital clutter. It's also a topic I'll be focusing on during one whole month in 2012.
I love organizing my home, however I never feel like my kitchen is really organized. Any suggestions?
Label, label, label. Containerize. Consolidate. Keep an inventory. Go through all of your drawers and cabinets - get rid of 7 of the 10 pot holders you never use (and so on). This is my biggest downfall - I love kitchen gadgets/tools. I've (finally) learned to keep a handle on my obsession and stop buying these things. I keep my inventory up to date so I'm not bringing in more food than I can handle (although...I'm deeply embarrassed by my kitchen cupboards right now).
What tips to you have to organize a bathroom closet?
Containerize. One of my favorite things to organize when I was living at home was my parents' bathroom closet. I containerized/consolidate and categorized everything and then labeled. It makes a world of difference. Fold towels and sheets nicely - it also make a huge difference. I wish I had a bathroom closet in my apartment - instead I'm stuck with large under sink storage, but it's not enough for me.
What are your best tips for organizing kids?
Make the organization process simple and fun. They love using recycled materials (tissue boxes can hold crayons and other art supplies) to store things in. Take pictures of the toys contained in a box they can't see through and put both the picture and a label on the outside of the box. If you want things shelved in a certain spot, take a picture of what goes in that spot and tape it on the shelf. The simpler, the better. My 2nd graders love these things that I've mentioned.I would definitely use print with kids and organization though - it helps with word/sound/letter recognition.
What would you suggest as a starting point to organization for a busy working mom?
Start small and create a plan/schedule. Don't feel like you need to get it all done in one day. Your organization system will change constantly if it's new, until you find something that works for you. If it's something you want to do, then use some of your "me" time to tackle it. For me, personally, organization gives me piece of mind - so I'll use my "me" time to organize things. If it's not a priority for you - or your family - then just fit it in when you can. Don't stress over it. =]
What is something I can easily do each day to keep my house organized and not so overwhelming?
Schedule it - add it right to your calendar. Or do a quick, 10 minute run through of your home with a basket in hand. Pick up everything that's in the wrong place/room and then put it all away. If you have children that are old enough to help out, take your basket of items and sort out their items into baskets with their names on them and have them put their own stuff away.
How do you organize your kids' home art supplies? How do you organize what to keep/recycle? How
long do you keep art before it gets recycled?
I don't have any children of my own yet, but I'd buy a plastic drawer set and label it with pictures and words for them. If something spills in the drawer, you can clean it since it's plastic. As for kids' artwork - check out this post I wrote back in July about this topic.
What is your favorite room of the house to organize and why?
I love organizing closets. They're fun to label/containerize. Plus, there's so much you can do with a closet!
What is your favorite craft (if any) and how do you organize that?
I love all sorts of crafts - but mostly paper crafts. I like to organize my crafting supplies in cute picture/shoe boxes from Michaels. If I had a crafting room, that'd be heaven. But right now I'm stuck storing everything in my closet.Home Life Related Qs
How do you get it all done?
This question cracks me up. Many people asked this one.
How do you clean your home? Do you have a system to it?
I prefer to do the same task all at once all over the house. If I'm dusting, I'll dust everything. Same with vacuuming and everything else. It makes it easier for me to focus on one task at a time. If I try to tackle one room (completely) at one time, I always get sidetracked.
What is a dream splurge space of yours (like a theatre room, crafting room, etc.)?
Definitely a home office or studio of some kind for just me. I'd love the space for all of my teaching materials that I have at home for planning, a place for my crafting materials, and a place for my blogging/etsy store materials. A room just for me. =]
I would love to know how your cleaning schedule looks--daily, monthly, quarterly, yearly.
When I figure it out this week (or next) I'll let you know. It's something I'll be working on for my HMB over break!
How do you keep your priorities in order?
I don't. lol. I try though. Chris and I have made large goals for our life - the main one right now is paying down our student loan debt. So both of us work a lot to bring in as much money as we can to throw at the debt. We both understand if things get put on the back burner because of our stress from work. For example, we both come home and make dinner, watch TV together, and then I blog/search Pinterest and he plays video games. We're okay with that. It's our destressing time. If I feel like I'm good to go on my stress level, I'll tackle other things that need to get done. If I need help, I'll ask Chris and he's willing to help. We have a relationship of knowing (and understanding) what each other needs/wants and we make it work.I can't imagine what life will be like once we have kids. I know we'll make it work, but it's going to turn our world upside down, I'm sure.
On the other hand, I rely on lists and my planners. When I get to it, I get to it. (Unless it's on a Post-It note - then it's a must do ASAP type of task.)
Do you have a favorite method to organize your finances such as www.Manilla.com? Any thoughts to keep all that incoming mail re: bills in check?
My favorite method of organizing my finances is Mint.com. It allows me to categorize everything and automatically merges the transactions from both of my bank accounts. It also has an Android app, so I can keep track of things on the go. Mint lets you set up budgets as well, and will let you know when you go over. PageOnce is great too because they send me emails when I receive a new billing statement with my credit cards, internet company, etc. That's the only feature I really use with PageOnce though.
When I receive bills in the mail, I pay them automatically. I pay everything online (except rent). So I just set up the payment for each bill when I want it to be paid, write it on my calendar in my HMB (to keep track) and let the internet do it's magic. I strongly believe in only looking at each (paper) bill/email alert for bills once. I just want to get it over with so I don't forget to pay it.
If you can't go digital with bills, keep a filing system for them. Set up one day a week that you'll sit down and pay bills (this is something I learned from my Dad) and just get it over with. Once it's paid, file it.
What's your secret to staying organized, blogging, working, and running a
household? My biggest problem is I'm so tired after work that I hardly
have time or the energy to do much more. Any tips?
Finding balance and loving what I do. Because I truly enjoy blogging, I find time to do it when I want to. I'll admit - I obviously not had the time I used to for blogging, but I want to continue it, so I find time for it. The good thing about my blog is it motivates me to keep my home in (some kind of) order so I have something to blog about. If organization wasn't something I enjoyed, I wouldn't bother. If I'm ever burnt out, I step back, assess what needs to be done, and get it over with - then I relax.Blog/Etsy Store Qs
Regarding your printables - are you a "self taught" kind of person, or did you take classes?
With everything technology related, I am completely self taught. It's something that interests me, so I send most of my free time exploring the tech world.
Did you do your own {blog} designing? What have you done to get your blog page out there?
Yes, I have designed everything myself on my blog. I'm trying to learn Photoshop, but I don't really have the time right now.And to expose my blog, I've linked up to parties other blogs host on a weekly basis when I have a project worth sharing. Pinterest has also been one of the biggest exposures for me. When someone pins, it can just go nuts from there if they have a lot of followers. It's viral. =]
When do you work on your blog? Morning or night?
I work on my blog at night. I'm not a morning person, so when I get up in the morning, I get ready and go. I sleep as long as possible. I usually don't begin to blog until 9 PM (which is nuts on my part) - but I schedule all of my posts to post automatically for me - like this one!Another Personal Q
What are your New Years Resolutions?
I don't have any. I don't like making them, because I never follow them. I used to make a list every year, and it seemed like those things on the list were never accomplished, but the things that didn't make it on the list, did get accomplished. (Reverse psychology?)
I'm more of a goal maker - with deadlines. It helps me accomplish more in my life - in a more manageable way.

Q&A: Part 1
I've had quite the response with questions, so I'll break it up into a few posts. On Friday I'll tell you about my favorite organizing tools, since many people has asked that.
Personal Qs
What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is Stuart Little by E.B. White. I don't really read any organization/craft/diy books. I spend most of my time reading children's and teaching books. I have recently finished The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. It's amazing. I'd recommend it. (Can't wait for the movies!)
What are your hobbies (other than blogging and organization)?
I'm addicted to Pinterest. Seriously, addicted. I'm a total tech-geek, so I spent a lot of time on my PC. I also love sale shopping, going out to eat and to the movies with my husband, and teaching. Even though teaching is my profession, I would also call it a hobby because I absolutely love it... which is why I spent too much time in my classroom before and after school. I really do enjoy staying home though and doing absolutely nothing with my husband.
Do you have plans for children?
Yep! Maybe in 5 years from now? I'm 24, and would love to have them now, but financially we
Do you have plans for buying a home?
Oh my goodness - I'd love to buy a home tomorrow, but again, financially we aren't able to. That is definitely on our list of things to buy ASAP so we can stop throwing our money away on renting. I can't even imagine the fun I could have decorating and organizing a home of my own. Oh - and I could PAINT! =]
What made you decide to go to the U of U?
Well, Chris and I started dating when we were juniors in high school. That summer his dad and stepmom visited his aunt in Salt Lake City. They loved it out here and sent us out for a weeks vacation. While we were out here, they took us to the U. Chris and I both knew, even before we started dating, that we wanted to go away for college. I just wanted something different and always wanted Colorado for some reason and he wanted Oregon. So we liked the school and decided on the U. Regrets? Not really. Just the student loan debt we acquired. Should have gone to a community college first. Oops! =]As of now, we plan on staying in Salt Lake. (Sorry, Mom!)
Work/School Qs
Do you theme your classroom?
Not currently, and I don't know if I ever will. I know a lot of teachers who do, and they get so burnt out from it. If anything, my classroom is "themed" fun colors, kid-centered, and organized. (lol) I definitely will theme and integrate my curriculum once I get the hang of things in the future. For example, there are some great units on Teachers Pay Teachers where they them it The Wizard of Oz and then teach a bunch of literacy and math concepts within the themed unit. That sounds like fun.
If you could teach any grade, what would it be?
I'd love to teach 3rd again, or 4th. Loved 3rd grade - didn't like teaching cursive. I loved the independence the kids had in the spring of 3rd grade, so I think I'd love 4th grade. Although 2nd grade is fun. =]
What is your perspective on classroom discipline?
I use positive reinforcement constantly and encourage the kids to be responsible for themselves. I don't have any true classroom rules, just classroom expectations. When students aren't being responsible, they move down the behavior chart, but they can always move back up throughout the day. If they end the day on "teacher's choice", they fill out a behavior reflection. Repeat offenders have to take it home and have it signed, and if that happens, that's usually enough for them to not choose that behavior again. As for the whole class, if they're just out of hand, I'll take time away from recess - with the opportunity for them to earn it back. When the whole class does something amazing, we pick a number for teamwork bingo. They're working towards 15 minutes of free time - which the activities will all be educational choices.
I also believe that the environment plays a huge role on how students will behave in the classroom. That's why I choose to make everything in my classroom super obvious and easy for the kids to "follow along" in, without making it too juvenile for their level. Being really organized helps as well.
Do you eat lunch in the cafeteria at your school or do you pack?
I pack my lunch every day. I've never even considered eating lunch from the cafeteria. Not that I wouldn't, but I make my husband's lunch every morning, so I just pack mine as well. I just purchased the thermal tote from Thirty-One and absolutely love it. It does an amazing job at keeping my lunch cold with just one cold pack. I'll blog about it soon since it's a newly found fave.
What kinds of things do you like for teacher appreciation?
Flat out honesty - no food, please. So many people give food - cookies, candy, etc. - and it just becomes too much. For example, just last week for Christmas - I received so many food items that, between my husband and I, we can't eat it all. I'm not a huge sweets person, so these things aren't something I'll indulge in. I love school supplies (pens, pencils, Post-It notes, etc.) because they won't go bad, and will get used up for sure at some point. Gift cards are nice, because they will also get used. Although, I must admit, I do still have about 3 gift cards from teacher appreciation week last year that I haven't used yet...just because I received so many. If I had to choose one "category" though, it would just be school supplies. Being a beginning teacher, it's something I totally need.Tomorrow I'll answer questions related to my blog, organizing, home life, and any others I didn't answer today.
P.S. - If you want to ask a question, leave a comment below and I'll answer it tomorrow!

Even Better News...
I've done it. I finally have my dream job. On Monday I received a phone call from the principal at the school I did my student teaching at last year - they have an immediate opening in a 2nd grade classroom. I interviewed yesterday afternoon, and was offered the job last night. I am so excited!
Expect to see some classroom organization tips (which will most likely be easily transferable to your home) very soon! According to those who have filled out my reader survey, there are a lot of teachers out there searching for classroom organization tips.
I start my new job on the 28th and I couldn't be happier. (Plus my new hours will be better, giving me more time blog!

Values Americans Live By
Today's post is going to be...well, different. I've been wanting to share this with you for a long time now, but have just kept putting it off for numerous reasons.
Back when I was a senior in high school (in 2005), I took a culture shock class about society and manners. The class was absolutely amazing and I have so many positive memories about the class. My teacher, Brenda Sinkovich, was incredible and really wanted us all to learn about ourselves and our values. It was never a pushy class, but more of an encouraging class - she wanted us to understand everything we could about ourselves and become comfortable in our own skin. It worked for me.
At the end of the semester we were given an article to read titled "Values Americans Live By", written by L. Robert Kohls. (You can read it here.) It was eye opening and thought provoking. After discussion about the article, we were asked to make a project featuring our 10 personal values. I have never enjoyed creating something so much in my life and ever since, have wanted to create another. I visited my high school when I went back to PA for my wedding in June and got to see my culture shock teacher. We reminisced about the course and she showed me that she still had the book she created 6 years ago as well. It was such a nice reunion.
I want to share my book with you, so the following pictures are all pages from my book. {Don't judge me too much -- remember, I made this 6 years ago, when I was 17 and still in high school. lol}
