40 Day Summer Challenge: Cleaning the Oven

Last Monday I posted about my 40 Day Summer Cleaning & Organizing Challenge. I've already crossed off 7 items. Today I'm blogging about how I clean my oven without using harsh chemicals. This was the first thing I crossed off the list. I hadn't cleaned my oven since I moved into my apartment last July. It was starting to smell awful when I'd turn it on...like something was burning. Not good.

I used to hate cleaning my oven. The nasty chemicals that you'd have to spray after preheating the oven and blah blah blah...so gross. Then I discovered Shaklee Scour Off. All you have to do is wet a sponge or cloth and wipe the putty all over the areas that need to be cleaned. Let it sit for 10 minutes and wipe off. If you use a scour pad, the tougher gunk comes off with easily with a little bit of scrubbing. Check out my before and after photos below.

  1. I, too, HATE cleaning the oven. I have some of that scour off stuff but I haven't liked it for anything I've tried so far. Maybe I'll give it a shot in my oven.

How hard was it to get the scour off out of the oven? I used it on my stove top and it was a real pain.

    1. You have to make sure you use enough water. If it's dry and you're trying to wipe it off, it's not going to work very well. I've also used this to clean my shower. I've never had issues getting it off of anything or with it not working.

  2. I hate cleaning my oven. But I have a fairly new one and all I have to do to clean the gunk on the bottom is pour in two cups of water and hit the self cleaning button. The stuff comes right out at the end of the cycle (20 minutes) the rest of the oven isn't any cleaner though :(

    1. Hmm...I've never heard of an oven like that. Sounds neat, but if it's not getting the job done with the "self cleaning" option, that would drive me crazy, too!
