As I broaden my cooking ventures...meaning I'm using recipes to create meals from scratch rather than boxed meals...I'm accumulating more and more spices. My (apartment) kitchen storage is not the best.
My spices are sitting on the lazy susan and are now being bought in bigger sizes...which means they won't fit on the lazy susan. (See the garlic salt container to the left.) And yesterday I bought a parsley container about the same size. I don't know what to do with my lack of storage room.
Plus I should mention that I'm short -- a whole 5'2" -- so I need a step ladder to even reach the second shelf.
I love these ideas...
I really would love the magnetic containers that I could refill as needed, but I don't have anywhere to put a magnetic board.

I love all of the baskets that are labeled along with the shelf -- that way the husband will know exactly where to put the olive oil after he just took it out 5 seconds ago...

If I had drawers I would definitely be going that route. I love how easily I'd be able to

If I had the counter space I would definitely get a freestanding spice rack. I love the look of them.

This pull down organizer would be perfect for my lack of height. Unfortunately you have to mount it to the shelf and I don't want to put holes in it.

And last, but not least, this is probably what I'll go with. I'm just not 100% sure yet. Plus, I don't like the price. If you have one of these, please let me know if you like it and if it's worth it to purchase or not. (Thanks!)

How do you organize your spices? What would you do in my situation of lack of storage and accumulation of spices?

Tiffany,
ReplyDeleteMy spice mess got so frustrating I finally designed my dream containers and started a company! They are designed to be extremely space efficient because I store a large collection in one drawer. They are also very functional, for example, you can actually get a measuring spoon in them. With your cupboard set up of using a lazy-Susan, another bonus is you can see every single label of every container when it’s on the lazy-Susan! SpiceCare might be your answer. Also having great containers, you can buy spices from bulk bins and save tons of money. You can actually pay for the cost of the containers with the savings in the cost of spices. Let me know what you think. I fell your pain, I've been there!

Carol,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for responding. I absolutely LOVE these spice containers! I don't currently have the budget for them right now, but when I do I will definitely be purchasing them. I love that you can label them. Oh my goodness I think I'm in love. =]
Hey Tiffany, i had the pull down spice organizers in a previous house. i really loved them. even though you have to put holes in the cupboard it is not something you see if you ever take them out. also there are tiered shelves you can buy that don't have to be installed.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback. That's good to know. I really like the idea of the pull down organizer. I think it'd be easiest for my situation.
I have the super spice rack and I like it for the most part... I too have bigger bottles but with this at least I can keep most of my spices labeled and organized... 20% off coupon at bed and bath helps the price... :)
