I've always "liked" a lot of business pages on FB. It was a bit overwhelming a few months ago before the Lists feature came out and all of my liked pages were showing up on the main news feed along with friends and family. Information overload. Here's how to organize your FB likes so you can view what you want, when you want. {The instructions are written on the images, so if you're reading in an update email or feed reader and can't see the images below, please visit the blog.}
After creating all of my lists, I've deselected the "Show in News Feed" option for each page. By deselecting that option, it doesn't show up on my main News Feed - only friends and family do now. Since I've created lists for ALL of the pages I like, I still get the updates, but I choose when I view them. I also really enjoy being able to view the same type of updates all at once {for example - all of my education blogs and companies are on one list and I can view their updates together}.
If you have any questions, let me know!

Best. Tutorial. EVER!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this. I have separate list for my6 friends/family and work but never thought about doing it for blogs thanks so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! I have unliked so many things that I liked and really didn't want to unlike but didn't realize I could have just removed them from my news feed. Now I am organizing all my likes and will be able to check feeds quickly from certain types of pages (without them cluttering up my news feed).
ReplyDeleteThis has helped me soooo much. (I am not to tech savvy but I catch on quickly when I have directions to follow).
I had no idea you could even do this! Thank You so much!
ReplyDeletethat is awesome! i always wondered why fb hadn't done that - made it so there were separate 'feeds.' i liked that there was an option to not view them in news feed (b/c they crowded all the news i really wanted to know about friends and family) however, that didn't mean i wanted to miss out on a special coupon, announcement, whatever . . .
ReplyDeletewas there a quick way to deselect "view in news feed"? or did you have to do it manually one by one?
thanks for the tutorial!!
This is great!! I'll need to start organizing ;)

I second the question posed by heatherb above: Is there a way to quickly de-select the "view in newsfeed" option, if not how do we go about removing these from the rest of the newsfeed?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
I don't think there is a way to quickly go about removing all pages from your news feed. If there is, I haven't discovered it yet.
ReplyDeleteThe way I went about doing it, was each time that a page showed up on my main FB page newsfeed, I'd click it, and change it. That way I wasn't doing it all at once, and I wasn't wasting my time on pages that I've already deselected.
Thanks so much for your post!! I have been following your directions and am amazed at how many pages I have "liked" !!! Ugh, what a mess!! Wish there was a quicker way to remove them all from my newsfeed (like, after creating the list, there should be a "setting" that you can click to unsubscribe them from your news feed all at once!!!).
ReplyDeleteI've also shared this post on my facebook (from your handy link above) !!! Thanks so much!!!!
All you have to do now, is hover over the name of the page you've "like" in your news feed. You'll see a popup with more info and the "Like" button with a check beside it. Hover over that and a dropdown will appear to let you add the page to lists you've already created as well as Show In News Feed. Just uncheck there and refresh the page. I did this to mine today, thanks!!
ReplyDeletewow, what a great tip!!! I just tried it!
