Review & Giveaway: Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler

This month we tackled organizing paper clutter. How are things going? Has this month's challenged helped you? I'd love to hear about your progress from the challenge!

Have you heard? Rubbermaid has a new product out, just in time for Earth Day (and the March Challenge: Paper Clutter)! Recycling has always been a pain for me because it takes up so much room when you need to sort it all out. I've truly been searching online, for the last 3 years, for something affordable and compact, yet able to hold quite a bit of material.

The Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler is awesome. It holds two separate compartments of materials - both easily detachable from the unit so you can empty them at the recycling bin outside your home. Both compartments also have carrying handles that swing up for easy transportation.

If you don't need as much space for recyclables, you can use the bottom section for garbage. This section holds an 8-gallon trash bag and will hold the bag in place with Rubbermaid's Liner Lock™ system, making this recycler a dual-purpose bin that fits easily in your kitchen without taking up twice the space!

Rubbermaid sent a 2-in-1 Recycler to me to try out for myself. I decided to use mine by my desk and use the bottom half for garbage. I seriously throw out so much paper, it's terrible. This is definitely motivation for me to start recycling. We don't have a recycling bin at our apartment complex, so I'm going to have to take my recyclables to school with me - which is just fine because my school makes money off of the amount of materials we're recycling!

The 2-in-1 Recycler honestly makes me feel better about this month's challenge since I've been getting rid of so much paper clutter. This review/giveaway couldn't have had better timing!

  1. That is neat! I'll have to admit, often I don't recycle like I should because I can't stand to see the recycling sitting there on the floor, so if the bin outside is full, I will throw stuff away to get it up off the floor. . . I know, I know, I'm hanging my head in shame. I'll have to check that out though.

  2. I threw away papers in some of my boxes of papers (and plan to do more!)

  3. I almost forgot to mention, I just got rid of a TON of paperwork that we just didn't need. I have yet to organize the paperwork in my expanding file though. . .

  4. For March I have went through all of my college papers throwing away which ones I don't need and organizing all the ones into folders and binders that I need to keep post college in May! :)

  6. Wow this recycler is amazing- would be perfect for our small rowhouse in Baltimore city! For March we have started spring cleaning early and began with all the paper & mail clutter that we tend to collect. I built a mail station similar to the one you have on your post, which helped a lot for taxes!!! I also started to started scanning documents that we don't need to keep originals of and categorizing them onto an external hard drive. Next step is the boxes of undergraduate and graduate school work sitting in our basement!!!

  7. I love the recycle organizer. I did well with paper clutter I shredded about two bags full of paper.

  8. I would love to have this when we move into our house next month!!!

  9. I am getting married this summer and already organizing all my papers/records for "the big move" to my fiance's house from my little apartment. During the March Challenge, I've been going through a lot of paper junk that I had saved. I've learned to "let it go" and only save the stuff I need! Thanks for all the great tips :)

  10. I went through all our file cabinet folders. I reorganized and shredded everything that wasn't needed any more.

  11. In March I started purging some of the old files in my filing cabinet.

  12. We just moved last weekend, so my organization consisted of purging, purging, purging! I also FINALLY put our bills into an accordian file so we could access them quickly after the move. Now, we will be recycling on a monthly basis so this would be perfect, especially with my hubby's at-home business!

  13. I managed to shred one entire file cabinet drawer of old papers and receipts I was holding on to...I realized that the IRS probably wasn't going to care about my Coldstone Creamery receipt from 2003! Moving in June for the first time in three years means I'm purging as much as possible now, so this challenge was great timing!

  14. we FINALLY have the option to do recycling through our garbage company. so we have been doing that. however...there are some days im just to lazy to go out to the recycle can. like today. it is raining... it would be nice to have this container inside and empty it out at the end of the day.

  15. That looks like a very useful recycler! We recycle EVERYTHING here, or well almost everything, and how recycling fills up really quickly, so this would be so useful.
I honestly don't have much paper clutter (shocking I know!), all of my bills I get and pay by internet. There are a few papers I do want to keep, especially now that tax season is upon us, and I use a 2$ accordion file I got at the Dollar Store, works great for me!
Thanks for giving us the chance to win this!

  16. I loved your March series and put so much into action! Made files for each family member . . . working on a recipe binder and cleaning out the cookbook cupboard . . . lots done and more to do!

    1. This month of March I've set up a desktop quick file for all the incoming mail that is important to keep but I don't want all those piles. Weekly I file away those desktop folders and the job doesn't seem to hard with only a couple of pages, thanks!

  18. Your March series is awesome. I now have a wonderful, easy to read recipe binder!

  19. I shredded junk and made 3 piles to be sorted. I sorted, filed, and shredded the piles once a week. Took only 5 minutes!!

  20. I live in a small studio apartment, and this is exactly the perfect thing I have been looking for to recycle paper and cans!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I went through my many stacks of paper and sorted and purged until it all fits neatly into one stylish filebox. Thanks for all the tips this month!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I purge my paper every March in preparation for taxes. I try to keep up on it through out the year, but there's always a stock to go through.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I shred old bills from 2009 and 2010 last Sunday. It totaled 5 bags of paper but it was so great to get it out of my house! It also freed up some shelf space where these folders were.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Definitely trying to sort mail into shred, file or address now..it's an ongoing battle, though!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I started weeding through everything and am going to file

    ReplyDelete
  26. I went through a drawer of paper that people hand to me in meetings, and shredded it all for recycling!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I organize our paper clutter by sorting it often, and using binders and magazine files to keep it orderly. We've gone paperless with as many things as possible, which really helps.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I organize my paper clutter by not keeping much of it. As a part time teacher AND student I go through a lot (a LOT) of paper and I try to write notes to myself on post-it notes, keep my to do lists online (teuxdeux.com) and pull paper out of the recycling rather than grab a sheet from the printer if I need to jot down a few notes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. In my city, we don't have to sort our recycling. We just dump it all into one giant bin that's picked up weekly. But what does happen is we pile it up (papers, cans, etc) on one end of our kitchen counter to take it to the bin outside. I hate that because my kitchen counter is always cluttered until someone makes the trip. The 2-in-1 would fix that! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bought a scanner and shredder and external hard drive....planning on emptying out the file cabinet.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm in university so I have a TON of paper from classes and residence and student fees and loans! It's insane the amount of paper I have. I decided to go through my binder of important paper work for school and determine which papers were actually important and needed. I found a bunch of duplicate papers that I had from my first and second year that were unneeded.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I went through all my old papers and threw them out. I bought a filing system and made sections to keep all paperwork easily accessible.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is so cool! I would actually love to use it in my classroom. So much goes in the trash that shouldn't and the kids might like to use this bin to be a little better with their recycling!

I have started using a filing system called Freedom Filer. It's pretty awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have a paper organizer that sits on our counter and I go through it every other week and throw out old papers from my daughter's school and mail.Whatever I decide to keep goes into a folding file folder and whatever I dont keep gets thrown in the trash or shred. I REALLY need to start recycling better! I just don't have a recycling bin in the house so I'll admit I am pretty awful about going out to our carport and putting recyclables in our green box out there.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm still in the process, but have attacked he mail, newspapers and magazines with a vengeance!

    ReplyDelete
  36. During the month of March I reorganized all of our bills/files. I loved being able to get rid of extra "stuff" that we had no need for. You have great organization tips that motivate me to tackle projects that I have put off doing. Thanks for the chance to win :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wasn't finished with my last comment and it got published before I was ready…
This seems like a great product! It might just be the jump start that I need to get back into recycling! Great for home or the classroom.
I use a file box to sort the majority of my papers right now, the "garbage" was being used as fire starter, but recycling would be even better. I have seen a file box like I am using on several blogs, so I decided to give it a try too. I have a calendar with all the due dates for my bills clipped to the front and so far it is working great. Now just on to the rest of the clutter in the house.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Definately need this!! We have been using a brown paper bag to collect our recycling- so this will definately save space in our kitchen and look much nicer! I hope I win!!

  39. What helped with my organization and de-cluttering of paper was to be more select in what I needed to keep. I need to tackle transitioning to electronic, but that may take a bit. Thank you for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I went through all paperwork after taxes and got rid of what I no longer need.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I went through my file drawers and purged!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've gotten much better about handling the mail situation. I live in an apartment and where we get our mail has a little sorting table and trash cans, so before I even take it into my house I go through my mail and throw out the trash. Other things I have an accordian style storage thing that I put my, my boyfriend's, our cats', and joint papers in. It helps keep up with the important things while giving them a place to go. It's really convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I switched the rest of my bills to electronic delivery only and reorganized/purged my file drawer.

    ReplyDelete
  44. So cool! I've been thinking of finding something that will work better for our recycling. Our current system just isn't working and haven't found the solution yet.

    ReplyDelete
  45. This month I cleared off my desk by going through my file cabinet, getting rid of un-needed papers and filing the ones I need to hold on to. Also sorting my school papers into class binders and packing up the binders I no longer need but what to hold on to.

  47. I need One of these!!!! Would be perfect for the appartment....Garbage on top and recycling on the bottom!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I always read through my mail as soon as I bring it in the house, so only the important stuff stays and the rest goes in recycling!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Genius! I'm moving back to Germany where you get fined if you DON'T recycle. This would be PERFECT!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I've been purging lots of papers, magazines, and books for my upcoming move. Clear it out!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I bought myself a "paper basket" so all incoming paper goes into that basket and I go through it once a week/month. I'm not totally on top or organizing and filing everything but at least I am getting in the habit of putting all paper in one place.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I cleaned out my file box and started a family home management binder!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I cleaned out my file cabinet and had a day full of awesome shredding (and recycling... ) - I won't lie, it was really fun.

  59. I organized all my classroom theme papers in binders {for the things I don't use often} and hanging file bins that fit inside my desk {for my favorites}!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I organized paper clutter by scanning documents that I wanted to keep but wasn't required to keep and tossed the hardcopies. I've reclaimed over half my file storage space that way.
The separated Rubbermaid bins would be great to separate junk mail and other paper recyclables from cans and bottles.

  73. So far I've made a home management binder that makes me feel like I'm not going to forget anything anymore! I also went through my file cabinet and threw away or shredded old info and re-sorted and filed all current information. It will be so much easier to find things in the future, and continuing to stay organized will be so much easier! I've also started my "traveling office" with one of my 31 totes... I cannot wait to start using it!! This new trash can is awesome too... Right now I have a tiny garbage by my desk that holds almost nothing, and then a paper bag for my recycling... functional but not pretty. If I don't win I just might have to buy one anyway!

  74. This month I bought a sturdier box for my files, my old one was more accordion style and flopped open anytime I got anything out of it! I've also started ripping articles out of magazines that I've had laying around so I can put them in a binder and recycle the rest of the magazine!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I've organized my paper files by scanning everything, and then shredding all the documents that I don't need to keep the original. We recycle here and this recycle bin would be wonderful to keep in the kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have been going threw storage containers getting shredding everything that is over 5yrs old. I am also starting to scan everything onto a external hard drive. We would love to recycle but our town does not pick up them. So this would be great to have everything sorted and just go once a week to drop it off. Thank you for the chance to win.

  77. We use a milk crate that fills up SO fast. This would be fantastic! In Iowa, we can "recycle" our bottles and cans to get our deposits back ($0.05 per container). It adds up quickly!

  81. This month, I finally purchased a new filing cabinet. My old one was too small to contain all my papers. It is much more easier to find what I need with this new one that I organized. I also bought a personalized recipe binder (much more fun than a plane binder) in which I organized my recipes in alphabetical order. The clutter is much smaller!

  93. I didn't do as much paper organizing at home as I did at school. It wasn't anything new or innovative but I finally got a lot of papers organized by topic and some reproducibles copied out of a book so I could just organize the original with my lesson plans rather than writing down a page number.

Home needs a lot of work still but since my husband or I are either home alone with our toddler, we can't get much done. We're hoping that Spring Break will bring us time to get caught up and set up some organizational systems to use in our home!
