Last Thursday I was offered a job at a brand new charter school for a 4th grade position. The school has a business emphasis. Technology galore at this school - right up my alley! I am excited for many reasons, but now at least I don't have to spend the summer stressing about whether or not I'll have a job next year.
So, fellow teachers - do you have any tips for me for teaching 4th grade? I just taught 2nd and completed my student teaching in 3rd. Any tips, websites, etc. that you could share would be greatly appreciated!

I'm in the same boat with you! After 3 years teaching 2nd and 1 year teaching 3rd, I'm now teaching 4th in a new school. After seeing what you did in 2nd, I'm sure you'll do great!
ReplyDeleteI would checkout 4th Grade Frolics. She has great stuff.

Congratulations, Tiffany! That is GREAT news. Your summer is going to be so much better now that you know what you're doing. I bet you are feeling inspired and motivated now. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThat's great Tiffany! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Tiffany. Good job, you deserve it!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I student-taught 1st grade, taught 6-8 grades, then this past year I've been in 3rd, but no 4th grade experience. But one thing you surely will need to know is that it is IMPERATIVE for 4th graders to know their multiplication facts through the x12s. Timed tests, albeit scary, have been the only method I've found to light that fire under my students and get them motivated to memorize those multiplication facts. Enjoy!
Congrats! I just finished my masters in teaching this May, and I'm so anxious to get a job for the fall! My student teaching was in fourth grade, and I loved it! I don't really have any resources to recommend, but you're so fortunate to have the whole summer to prepare :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, may you have many more years of celebrating. I am very happy that you will not have to stress about a job this summer. Best of luck to you, and your new experiences with a 4th grade.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! No tips at all for you but that photo is gorgeous. Actually one tip--have fun and make a difference in those kids lives...i know you will!

Congratulations! I'm in a similar position, I taught third for four years, taught second last year, and will be in fourth next year. I'm currently transitioning my second grade blog to a fourth grade one...
ReplyDeleteWhen I announced my grade level change, many people recommended lots of great blogs to me! http://www.fourthnten.com/2012/04/second-grade-math-giveaway.html#comment-form

Congratulations Tiffany! :-)
ReplyDeleteI teach 5th grade and I LOVE the age! The younger grade teachers thank I am crazy! The main "tip" I can give is to pick your battles and have fun with them. Show them you can have fun and smile and they will be putty in your hands. I am going on my 5th year teaching 5th grade and I couldn't imagine teaching a different age group. You will do great!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany! I love your blog :) I've been reading for a while now, but this is my first comment! Just wanted to say congrats on the new job :) how exciting! Good Luck!

4th grade is a blast. They are energetic and love jokes. Their independence continues to grow and they are entering that in-between stage. They start the year as little kids and by the end of the year, several are moving into puberty, especially the girls. They are becoming more aware of the opposite sex, which makes for interesting times. I love responsive classroom.org. Their method for management and building community really helps the 4th grader learn better self-regulation skills. Check it out! Good luck and congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Tiffany! Now you can spend some time relaxing this summer (after you get through that mighty long to-do list you created!)
ReplyDeleteCongrats in both pieces of good news!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a teacher, but I remember struggling with times tables in Grade Four. What helped me, was all the "tricks" to remembering. For example: for ten times anything you just add a zero, for the nine times tables there is the fingers trick (plu the digits always add up to nine)... That could help a few of the students and keep things fun?
check out Mrs. Renz (google search her) She is a 4th grade teacher that has FABULOUS ideas! Not a blogger, but a great website anyways.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! Congrats on both!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found a position. You are going to do a fantastic job!
I teach art in a K-5th school. I love both 2nd and 4th graders. You will notice 4th graders can do so much more than your 2nd graders could. The 4th's have more developed fine motor skills and can do tasks longer. Hands on things like foldables are always good. Try poking around on Pinterest for inspiration and ideas.
Keep us posted and let us know how it goes.

Congratulations! I'm glad you found something so quickly so you can enjoy your summer break!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tiffany! That is great news!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Tiffany! I just finished my second year of teaching 4th grade (math and English) after many years of teaching 6th grade. You will probably be amazed at how independent 4th graders are comnpared to 2nd graders. The first couple of months were just the opposite for me coming down 2 grades! Our district is starting Common Core this year, and our main focus will be multiplication and division, fractions and geometry. Hopefully they know their math facts coming from third grade, but sadly that is not true in most cases. My parents grumble about time tests, but I tell them that so many things we do in fourth grade depend on them knowing their facts--long division, reducing fractions, etc. Also, in Louisiana fourth grade is a "high stakes" test year. Students must achieve a certain score in ELA and Math to go on to grade 5. It stresses us ALL out! As for links, I really like Fourth Grade Friends.
