My Summer Home & School To-Do List

It's bittersweet. I have 3 half days left until the school year is over. Then Thursday and Friday I will finish packing up my classroom and moving out. I'm ready for the break, but I don't want to leave my school. Boo.

I have a to-do list for this summer. Lots I want to accomplish and share with y'all.

First, I want to start monthly challenges again. I miss the accountability I felt they provided for me. I want to make more printables to share - both free and in my etsy store. I want to make files to sell on Teachers Pay Teachers.

I need to clean and organize my apartment. It has totally fallen apart since ... oh, I don't know ... February? I'm not just exaggerating and saying that I need to clean because one thing is out of place or dirty -- it's the whole package this time.

I have plans to revamp my recipe binders a bit. Nothing drastic, but I can't wait to share - if it all works out.

BusyBodyBook is going out of business. I'm sad because I was planning on switching back from my current Erin Condren Life Planner. I absolutely love the look of the Life Planner, but I don't like the size - I find it not so nicely portable. I also don't feel like there's enough room to plan the way I like to. I love how the BBB has columns that can be labeled across the top and filled in for each day of the week. I'll be on the search this summer for an easy and not-too-expensive way to create my own BBB for 2013. If you have any ideas, please share. =]
I want to organize my school files for centers and worksheets. I have no idea where to even start there. I'm have a bunch of books on my Kindle Fire to read this summer. 90% are teaching books. (I'll share after I read them if they're any good.)

I'd like to make some of these supply caddies for my classroom. I found the caddies at Target for $9.99 each. Kind of pricey, so we'll see if I can find something cheaper, but I love how cute these are!

I've been wondering how to totally clean out candle jars for the longest time. They seem like they'd be great to reuse for storage. Yesterday I found this tutorial on how to clean out the residue from the jars. Definitely will be trying this out.

This could quite possibly be the first thing I try out ... I may even do it Wednesday night. I wear white camis under every shirt, and naturally, they have become dingy. Such a gross thought, but it's true.

We have a microfiber sofa. I will never buy one again as long as we have a dog. Such a bad idea. I hope this will help me clean it once and for all.

I will no longer be purchasing the plastic magnetic clothespins for closing food bags. They keep breaking. Alternative: DIY clothespin magnets painted & scrapbook papered.

Both of our cars need some cleaning & reorganization. Love this car document organizer!

It's time to find a solution for electronics and get rid of unneeded cords, discs, manuals, and junk that came along with them. I like the idea of a cord organizing box.

What are your plans for the summer? Any home projects that are driving you crazy and can't wait to get started on?

  1. I reuse candle jars all the time. When they are as burned down as I can get them - I put the jar in a small saucepan that has a little water in it. Simmer the water until the wax completely melts - then pour and/or wipe it out with a paper towel. To get rid of the waxy residue - put a little Dawn dish washing liquid in the jar with up to an inch of water, depending on the size of the jar and microwave until the soap bubbles to the top of the jar. Dump the water/wax mixture out and wipe well with a paper towel. If there is still some residue left - wipe again with a warm wet paper towel with a little Dawn squirted on it. Good luck with your summer plans. I know I CHERISH my summer months and my to do list is way longer than I have time for! Well, I'd probably have more time for cleaning/organizing if I didn't spend so much time looking at fabulous blogs!

  2. I feel the same way about the Erin Condren planner. I just ordered a new planner from Paper Coterie and absolutely love it! There are tons of coupon codes out so don't pay full price! I got mine for 10$. : )

  4. I can't wait to see updates on some of your summer plans! I'm also a teacher (5 days left... Woot woot) and I find the GreenRoom planners at Target are fabulous! Plus they are cheap and easy to tote around.

  5. I can't wait to see all of your summer projects. The monthly challenges are a lot of fun. As for me I am still ongoing with my organization project for my whole house. So far I have tackled a lot and I am about half way through my house. For this summer I really want to find a used desk that I can use for my office. I have a couple of ideas and have pinned several projects that I like.

  6. My project for the summer is to get moved. My hubby and I are buying our first home. So I am soaking up all the ideas now and maybe they will help me get settled that much easier.

    1. I get the BBB e-mails, and a few months ago the owner said that she is closing up shop, and the BBB will no longer be available. On the website it says so, too. Sad!

  8. Let me know how the camp cleaning goes - I wear them all the time and hate have to repurchase them because they get dingy looking! I used an over the door shoe hanger to store all my cords - easy to find and no tangled mess.

  9. I agree with your thoughts on the Erin Condren planner. What do you think about creating a planner with the pro's of both Condren's & The Busy Book. I would buy one from you!

  11. I just about cried when I heard that they were going out of business. I decided to make my own for 2013 and created a BusyBodyBook copy in Photoshop. It took me about two days of work after the kids went to bed. Now all I have to do is find a printshop to print it, bind it and cut it out for me. And since the file is mine, I can change it for 2014 and years after.

The only change that I made was graphically, the layout is still the same. Really, it's a total of 104 files just for the weekly views and since you are able to create one 'base' file and just save the changes (dates and reminders), it was more tedious after the joy of creating that 'base' file.

If you find something commercial, though, let us know! *grins*

  12. I was wondering if you found anything close to the Busy Body Book. I have been using it for 5 years and there isn't anything that I have found that comes close to the organization the BBB offers.
