Process:
I totally cleared off the bookshelf and cleaned it. It needed some love.
Chris' books. Seriously...he doesn't have many.
I sorted all of the books by size and category first.
That high pile in the back on the left are all teaching related books. It's a little crazy because I have just as many, if not more, in my closet already.
Here's the start of all of my children's books.
As I was clearing the shelf, I was taking inventory of all of my children's books. Many times this last semester I was wanting a certain book on a subject such as math or social studies and because of how many books I have, I had no clue what exactly I had. I typed up a list of all of my books in Microsoft Excel. It took all night to do this. I wanted to get each book's category and grade level put in, so I was using Scholastic's website to do this as I was typing in each book's title and author. I have 285 children's books. What!? I couldn't believe it.
And as I was going through the books, I came across The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room. I can remember as a child loving this particular page from the book. Look at how organized that closet is! And that's what I was thinking...even at the age of 6. Kind of funny.
After:
Ah...6 hours later this is what the final product looks like. It looks so good! I'm so happy that I took the time to do this.
The children's books still take up 3 shelves, but hopefully soon I can put them in my new classroom and reclaim that space.
And as for the teaching books...they all made their way into my closet with the other teaching books. I didn't realize how many I have.
And these are the books I decided to get rid of. I'm going to list some on Amazon and Half.com to see if I can sell any before donating.
I think the living room is finally coming together. I do still need to go through my DVD collection and open the dreaded trunk (a.k.a. our coffee table). The coat closet needs to be gutted as well. Perhaps those things will be today's tasks.
Stoppped by from 5 minutes for mom. I love the change in the bookshelf! I have a REALLY messy bookshelf that has been staring at me day after day that I have been trying to ignore. I think it might be time to tackle it and make it look more pleasing to the eye. I like your writing style and now I am following you via GFC. Would love to have you stop by my blog as well!

Good Job, I did something similar a while back. I made a list of most of the books on my bookshelves. I think I need to review and see which books I have donated, and add the new ones. Thanks for your comment on my post.
