The trouble with CDs is they're not worth anything anymore (at least not the ones I have). I've looked into selling them online, but the most I could get is $0.25 a piece. Sure, it would be nice to get something out of them, but I would have to type in each individual UPC to sell them. Not worth my time. I'm also not interested in "swapping" them for other CDs online.
Over the holidays I went through my CDs and put them back in their cases (I had them all in a CD book). I have decided to just donate them all.
So go on, do a quick sweep of your CD collection, and decide what to get rid of. Inspect the disc to see if it's in good condition. If a CD is all scratched, just throw it away. If they're still in working condition, donate them.
Not ready to give up your CDs? Find a nice/easy way to store them. I like these ideas provided by other blogs...

| The House Undone :: media storage in a basket (Ashlie did this with DVDs, but it could easily be done with CDs as well!) |

I really need to do this! I have some very old CD's from back in my college days that are just taking up space. I have taken some of mine into FYE in my local mall (they buy used CD's and DVD's) and have been able to make some money off of the ones I will never ever listen to again. But I still have a ton to go through. Thanks for reminding me! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing, except mine were cassette tapes. hehehe
ReplyDeletefirst I copied all the songs I liked from each onto the computer then I gave the rest to the church that were Christian and goodwill any that were not.
ReplyDeleteI teach Kindergarten and I've seen some really cool projects to do with old cds. So consider donating them to a teacher or day care that might want to use them in a project especially the ones that might be scratched and not in good condition. This got me thinking about the mess that's on the top shelf of my closet. I need to use my own cds for some projects.
ReplyDeleteI finally got most of my CD's into the albums. The cases were taking up too much space. I still have a few and there are some my husband won't get rid of! I still use some of my CD's because I don't want to put all of them on my computer for my ipod and my CD burner doesn't work so I've been buying CD's recently if I want them for my car. I also bought the DVD's holders and I cleared out 3 shelves of dvds with one 25 pack! I need to get more!
ReplyDeleteAll of my cd's are in a box in the basement. Thanks to all the organizing I am doing I am planning on placing them into an album and getting rid of the cases. I am always worried that if downloaded they will end up missing in internet space.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog this morning and I have really been missing out! Thanks for all the gret ideas. This post on CDs reminded me of a tip, so from a fellow Utah teacher, here goes. Did you know those CD cases make great storage for spinners for games? I make my own games with spinner for school. You can purchase blank transparent spinner, the kind with only the spinning arm attached to a clear square. They happen to be the exact size of the CD case. I have created spinner template that are the same size. You can make your templates with any categories you need: 4, 5, 6, 8 colors, numbers, letters, etc. Print them on just plain copy paper (so they are thin, no need to laminate) Then cut out the templates, place them inside the CD, add the spinner, then close up the CD case! You can put 5-7 templates inside the case along with the spinner. I keep these on the shelf so students can get them whenever they play a game. They simply open the spinner, place the correct template on top and top it with the spinner. Instant spinners! Works great. Thanks for all your ideas. A veteran teacher of 27 years still needs new ideas.
