Help Me Help You...

First off, I am just amazed right now. The Nest Effect averages about 2,500 page views a day. Until yesterday...when it hit 7,500 views...and so far today 23,500 views. Thank you Pinterest. Apparently my October Project is a huge hit.

I've received emails and comments from readers asking me if I'm going to do something like this again or if I'd create worksheets like I did for the October Project for each month of the year. Sure, why not? But I need to know what y'all need help getting under control and organized. I'd really like to have a monthly project for each month in 2012.

Help me help you and leave a comment letting me know what you need to tackle in 2012. I'm sure you have ideas that I haven't thought of. I will create free printables to share each month for each project. Getting things under control will help me as well now that I'm not home all of the time like I was a few months ago. My home has become a war zone. lol

So please, leave a comment and let me know: what do you need help organizing? Tell me the area/room/topic/etc. Tell me what is bugging you about certain spots in your home. Let me know - no matter how big or small you think the project may be.

If I can get enough feedback from y'all, I may choose a comment to receive all of my editable documents from my etsy store.

The winner, chosen by Random.org on 12.17.11, is #6 - Rhonda! Congrats!

  1. Even though I have some great organizational skills... my whole House could use some help.

My problem is I can organize everyone else's stuff and my classroom at work. My house though is a completely different story! Maybe a room by room thing with various solutions to typical problems (i.e. DVDs!, tupperware/food storage, filing cabinet, electronics, entertainment center, under the sink etc.)

One of our worst areas is the basement and other "random crap" areas. About a year and a half ago, my BIL moved in with us and we ended up having about a week to get all our stuff stored in the extra bedroom out and put somewhere else. It's been hanging out in basement limbo ever since. Our 3rd bedroom with 2 HUGE closets, is currently occupied so we're left with the laundry room, basement family room, and under the stairs for all of our crap.

  2. I love the loan repayment printable you have... but I was wondering if you know of a way to scale it down to roughly 8.5 X5.5. I want to put it in my planner because I like it better than the one that came with my planner, but I can't quite figure it out and I am trying to keep all my paper in one place

  3. Two things that could use some creative organizing is my kids crafts/stickers/papers/etc. i would also love some fun labels for my bins of baby clothes, such as Girls 9-12 months, newborn, etc.

  4. I have a couple "junk drawers" with random stuff. No idea what to do with these stragglers (pen caps waiting to be mated up with their pen, note cards, packs of gum, random ribbons, scissors, etc) besides shove them in a drawer. It would be useful to see a convenient and organized way to keep this nice looking!

  5. My gosh! Grats on the awesomeness!

My horrible spot is the laundry room/first spot your see on the kitchen counter. AKA the 2 dumping grounds. The laundry room never stays clean... UGH! Shoes cant stay in the basket and stuff gets piled on the dryer. Random stuff. I don't know why... Then purse key blah blah mail whatnot - that all goes on the kitchen counter. So basically the area where we walk into first from the garage.

    SO. HORRIBLE.

  6. Just found your blog because of Pinterest and I am HOOKED! Our home has an open floor plan with a wasted space due to poor design planning. One of my problems is I don't have a place for a mudroom/entry way. The door just opens straight into the divide of the living room/kitchen. It is evenly spaced between the kitchen window and living room window and I don't know what to do to have a pretty place for keys, shoes, etc. There is no closet in this area either.

  7. i just found your blog and LOVE it!!! just added you to my daily reader. :)

my problem area is the office. both my husband and I have "desks" (mine is a folding table...) and we currently have 3 full size and 2 half size bookshelves in there. plus all the boxes we have yet to unpack since we moved in august. the office has ended up becoming office/craft room/storage unit, in all actuality. and I have no idea what to do! help!

and i would love love love love love your editable printables!!!!!!

  8. Just found you through pinterest. My area of need is definitely paper stuff. The desk is bad, but so is the area where I try to put school papers for my two girls.

  9. My absolute worst area of disorganization is laundry... my closets are a disheveled disaster, I don't have places to put most of my clean laundry, and I have no problem throwing things in the washer/dryer but don't know what to do with it when it comes out so it ends up in a wrinkled heap. Help!!!

  10. I need help organizing my medicine cabinet. What is the best way to dispose of old medicines? How can I keep a running inventory so that I will have the medications I need (tylenol, pepto bismol, etc.) when I need them instead of sending my husband to the drug store? I didn't realize what a mess my medicine cabinet was until cold season hit. Can you tell it has been bothering me?? :)

  11. Thank you Tiffany!!! October's clutter buster project has had me cleaning out stuff I should have done long ago. Like others, my desk could use some help. Other areas include my clothes closets, my laundray area, and surprisingly the space underneath the kitchen sink. I almost bought more spray cleanser and trash bags because I thought I was out, and it wasn't until I was looking for something else that I came upon the cleanser and bags. I need to keep better tabs on that area for sure.

  12. The office please. 2 desks, sewing, scrap booking, Kids craft bins. It also stores swim suits in bins off season, drying rack space year round. AKA the multi-purpose room.

  13. I need to stop printing off stuff from my favorite decorating, organizing, and flower garden blogs. It is easier for me to comprehend the hard copy than to read it off monitor screen.

Wintersowing participants need a spreadsheet to keep track of what flower or garden seeds they planted, date planted, germination date, Annual or Perennial, expected height, source of seeds, etc.

  14. Love your website! Just finished creating my Home Management Binder and completely re organized all of my file cabinets after reading your October Project's page.

I would love to see how you organize old mail - for example I have a TON of old cards from HS Graduation, from friends, ect. that I know I want to keep but they don't store well in a file cabinet (cards are small and when stacked are so bulky).

You also have shown us your college organizer a couple times - but I am curious as to how you organize it? I just started going back to school and want to start out organized!

Ideas for 2012.... cleaning out your car, or magazine clutter - how to organize it as it comes in, what is important to keep, etc.

Also was going to recommend adding a page for keeping track of calls or communication to credit card companies, loan companies or your bank in your home management binder.

  17. Hi Meagan,

I will post about wedding planning organization on Friday for you.

For my wedding, I bought Avery labels for wedding and shower invites to print the addresses on. They have downloadable templates for Microsoft Word on their website. It was SUPER easy to do. As for the guest list, I used an Excel document to track everything. I'll include the template in my post on Friday.

If you have any other questions that I can address in Friday's post, please let me know! =]

    Congratulations on your wedding!
